Duran Duran will always be associated with their racy music videos from the '80s. Here it is 1997 and people are still talking about the band's musical imagery.
Last weekend the Los Angeles Times reported Duran Duran's video for its new single, "Electric Barbarella", had been pulled off the air by Canada's major music video channels, the French-Canadian MusiquePlus and its English-language sister MuchMusic. The paper reported programmers deemed the clip -- which has the band purchasing a curvy female android to perform sexual and domestic chores -- to be outside the bounds of good taste.
Not so, says Sarah Crawford, director of communications at MuchMusic. "We did play the video...but we didn't add it into regular rotation. That's because we're getting upwards of 100 videos a week, we can add six to eight of them, and that week it didn't happen to stack up in terms of overall quality."
