theICON's October Update
The Greatest, will be
released on November 3rd in the U.S. and the 6th in Italy.
Pop-Up Video on VH-1 is now
featuring "Girls On Film". They started airing it on October 17th.
Watch for the inevitable repeats!
In the October 3rd issue of
Hello! magazine (#529), there is a photo of Yasmin and her sister
Nadia attending a charity fashion show.
Ok magazine-Issue 132,
October 16th has a picture of Simon on stage at the SkyDigital Party
which took place on the October 1st in the UK. The photo caption
reads "Simon le Bon got back together with other members of Duran
Duran to provide the soundtrack to the evening." Also mentioned in
the small paragraph written about the event was that "Duran Duran
re-formed to play their first gig together in years." (oh come on,
it's not that bad! -defensive ed. note)
This article on Simon
appeared in the World News Network.
LE BON SO SORRY OVER POSH GAFFE
"Simon LeBon has written a groveling letter of apology to Posh Spice Victoria Adams for disgracing himself in front of her. Details of the Duran Duran singer's embarrassing behaviour remain sketchy.
But it appears he was less than a gentleman to pregnant mama hitmaker Adams when he met her at the BRIT AWARDS ceremony in London earlier this year (2/98).
Le Bon says, 'Let's just say I was out of order and in the cold light of day I realised I owed Victoria an apology.' (Simon apologizing for his behavior!? Must have been really bad!! -sarcastic ed. note)
John is doing two record
signings during his upcoming tour. Here's the information:
Chicago- October 20th at Tower Records, 2301 N Clark St. (773.477.5994), scheduled for 7pm but might be earlier.
Boston- October 23rd at Tower Records, 360 Newbury St. (617.247.5900), scheduled for 7pm.
John's mother passed away
on October 6th after being ill for quite a long time. John had
gone home the week before and was at her side at the end. Both John
and his father are doing well.
Daily Variety NY Edition
10/98:
"In other movie music news, Variety reports that directors Allison Anders and Kurt Voss have just wrapped an as-yet-untitled film about the L.A. music industry. The trade describes the film as 'Nashville set in the rock biz.' Starring actresses Rosanna Arquette, Ally Sheedy, Lucinda Jenney, and Beverly D'Angelo, the picture features more than 30 characters, all centered around a group of has-been rock stars trying to reunite. The band is played by John Taylor of Duran Duran, Michael Des Barres (Power Station), producer Larry Klein, and former Spandau Ballet member Martin Kemp, who has also recently signed on for a stint on the BBC soap Eastenders."

theICON's September Update
Duran were the special
guests at the launch of Sky Digital TV. It was held at the
Battersea Powerstation on October 1, 1998. The set list was "Girls
on Film", "Electric Barbarella", "Ordinary World" and "Hungry Like
The Wolf." As usual, Steve Alexander played drums and Wes Wehmiller
was on bass. (Hey all UK readers, if you got this on video, we need
it! We'll trade! -begging ed. note)
Duran were mention during
Phil Collins Live By Request on A & E (aired on October 1st).
Phil told a story about the day he performed at both Live Aid shows.
He mentioned that he wasn't the only performer that was going to do
this - he said Duran Duran were as well, but they dropped out of the
event. Well, according to Duran, this was totally untrue. Duran
Duran were always going to play in Philadelphia only, because
Powerstation were touring the USA then (says an annoyed Nick.)
Duran Duran will be touring the UK in
December with their Greatest and Latest tour. The
band have NO PLANS for any other dates at this point. All tickets
are 17.50 pounds Sterling unless otherwise noted

Duran Duran Releases Hits Record, John Taylor Makes A Movie
9.30.98 12:00 EDT
Duran Duran will release a greatest hits package and accompanying video compilation November 3, and has scheduled a short pre-Christmas tour of the U.K. to promote the record. There are currently no plans to tour the States.
The 19-song track listing includes: "Is There Something I Should Know", "The Reflex", "A View To A Kill", "Ordinary World", "Save A Prayer", "Rio", "Hungry Like The Wolf", "Girls On Film", "Planet Earth", "Union Of The Snake", "New Moon On Monday", "Wild Boys", "Notorious", "I Don't Want Your Love", "All She Wants Is", "Skin Trade", "Come Undone", "Serious" and "Electric Barbarella."
The band has been in the studio recording their next album, tentatively entitled, Hallucinating Elvis, scheduled for release next spring.
Meanwhile, former member John Taylor is reportedly working on a movie this month with director Allison Anders, who's best known for flicks including Grace of My Heart, Gas Food Lodging and Four Rooms. Details are sketchy but the film apparently features Taylor as a rock star, and Rosanna Arquette as his wife. Michael Des Barres and former Spandau Ballet singer Martin Kemp are also in the picture. It's expected to make its debut at the 1999 Sundance Film Festival
Meanwhile, Taylor has a new band called Terroristen, which hosts Taylor on vocals and bass, Gerry Laffy on guitar, Michael Railton on keyboards, Larry Aberman on drums and John Amato on sax and flute. They recently made their record debut with a live EP recorded this summer on Taylor's own B5 label. Like Taylor's two previous releases, the CD is only available through the Internet. B5 will also soon be releasing a record by the band Three Alarm Fire. The website can be found at www.trusttheprocess.com
Bigmouth - Music News From
The UK's No.1 Music Information Station:
Duran Duran announce UK tour
Duran Duran have announced a 10-date tour of the UK, in December, under the banner The Greatest and Latest, beginning in Birmingham on the 7th and ending on the 21st at Wembley Arena. Tickets go on sale, today, (25th), the credit card hotline is 0990 321 321.
EMI are to release a, 19 track, 'greatest hits' package, from the band, in the first week of November. There will also be a video compilation to accompany this release. Track Listing for the album is as follows: "Is There Something I Should Know", "The Reflex", "A View To A Kill", "Ordinary World", "Save A Prayer", "Rio", "Hungry Like The Wolf", "Girls On Film", "Planet Earth", "Union Of The Snake", "New Moon On Monday", "Wild Boys", "Notorious", "I Don't Want Your Love", "All She Wants Is", "Skin Trade", "Come Undone", "Serious" and "Electric Barbarella."
The Durans are currently in the studio recording their next album, tentatively entitled, Hallucinating Elvis, scheduled for a Spring '99 release. You could also visit the band's official web site, at www.duranduran.com, although Nick Rhodes assures us that the site is about to undergo some "serious technological advances", over the next few weeks, and so is rather "under construction."
Duran's last live outing, in the UK, was at the Diana, Princess of Wales, Commemorative Concert at Althorpe Park, on the 27th June, this year, where they joined a host of other stars, to raise funds for the Diana Memorial Fund. One of Di's, all time, favourite songs was the band's "Rio." As they finished the song Simon Le Bon [pictured above, in re-hab] (the picture was one that we published in Issue #26 with Simon holding a gas mask over his face, don't panic! -ed. note) said, at the time, "She was a party girl and that was our ultimate fun song."
More Durannie news: John Taylor is reportedly working on a movie this month with director Allison Anders (Grace of My Heart, Gas Food Lodging and Four Rooms.) The film apparently has Taylor playing a rock star, with his wife, played by Rosanna Arquette. Michael Des Barres and Spandau Martin Kemp (who's just been signed up for a role in Eastenders) are also in the picture. It's expected to make its debut at the 1999 Sundance Film Festival.
The upcoming Duran Duran
Greatest Hits CD is going to be called Greatest. Greatest, due out on
November 9th, will be accompanied by a video of the songs on the CD.
The CD will be released on EMI Worldwide and on EMD subsidiary of
EMI) in America. The sleeve will be designed by Malcom Garrett. Below
is the track list (not necessarily in the order that they will appear
on the CD).
Duran have finished the
backing tracks for their upcoming CD so now it is time for the
lyrics. As the band are on holiday right now, they plan on
reconvening in September.
16 new songs are ready for
the new Duran Duran album. Some of the titles are "Lady Xanax",
"Someone Else, Not Me", "Dr. Vibes", "Lavaland", "Mars Meets Venus"
and "Satin In Drag". They started working on vocals in mid September.
Duran Duran will be featured
in an upcoming BILLBOARD book on Number Two singles.
On July 22, Duran Duran
parted company with their management team The Left Bank Organization.
After six years, the band has decided to move in a different
direction and felt the split was necessary. No new manager has been
named at this time.
Duran Duran will be filming a
VH-1 Behind The Music in November, which is set to start airing in
December.
There was a story on E! on
August 6th about Duran Duran offering fans an opportunity to be in a
movie (Shot in England) with them as extras (paid, also!), playing
fans of the band. E! said 20 people showed up (they were expecting
more), so they had to bring in extras and paid them $50 to play Duran
fans.
There is a new bootleg out
called With Love and Thanks. It's made up of demos from the Thank You
album. Some of the tracks are "Plastic Girl" live, "Diamond Dogs"
(demo), "Femme Fatale" (demo), "Watching The Detectives" (demo),
"Crystal Ship" (acoustic) and "Perfect Day" (acoustic).
From our very obscure file:
Item 1: Matchbox 20 have been performing "The Reflex" on their recent tour. (Maybe Terroristen has started a new trend of Duran cover bands -reflective ed. note)
Item 2: In the September 17 issue of Rolling Stone there is a little Duran mention: "They'd been on tour for a month, but when Culture Club, Howard Jones and the Human League hit New York's Radio City Music Hall as the Big Rewind Tour, it was as if the artists still hadn't met. Said Boy George backstage, 'Everybody is happy- I hope. I don't know, ask the other bands.' Jones, clearly unaware of the tour's title, was hesitant to play his hits. 'That's like going back,' he said. George let loose on his affair with Club drummer Jon Moss: 'I'd be dishonest if I said there weren't undercurrents.....(etc.)' And off he went to greet adoring fans- among them
Brandy from Long Island, who had but one comment: 'I wish Duran Duran was here!' The tour begins anew in October. There's still hope, Brandy."
There is another new bootleg
floating around out there called Tear Drop In The Sky. It's a
live CD recording of the Medazzaland Tour. The track listing is as
follows:
Disc 1:
- "Medazzaland"
- "Big Band Generation"
- "Hungry Like The Wolf"
- "Who Do You Think You Are?"
- "Electric Barbarella"
- "A View To A Kill"
- "Out Of My Mind"
- "Save A Prayer"
- "Is There Anyone Out There"
- "Be My Icon"
Disc 2:
- "Buried In The Sand"
- "Come Undone"
- "Friends Of Mine"
- "Careless Memories"
- "Girls On Film"
- "Secret Oktober"
- "Ordinary World"
- "Rio"
- "Michael"
There are photos of Amanda
and Atlanta horseback riding in the July 3rd issue of OK
magazine, #117.
TV Mania, Nick and Warren's
project, should be out by the end of the year.
Duran Duran were the special
un-announced band at the Princess Diana Tribute concert on June 27th
at her child-hood home, Althrop House. The concert, will aid many of
Princess Diana's charities. Duran were asked to play the concert
personally by Charles Spencer, Princess Diana's brother. The band
choose not to be on any of the advertising, and wanted their
participation to be low-key. The tickets were already sold out by the
time Duran Duran were added to the bill.
Duran Duran's performance closed out show and the set list was as follows: "Save A Prayer", "Come Undone", Hungry Like The Wolf", "Electric Barbarella" and "Rio". Simon, Nick, Warren and their families stayed at Althorp House and dined with Diana's brother, two sisters and mother. The band was thrilled to have had the opportunity to play the show and with the crowds response. One last note, the entire concert was broadcasted on Pay-Per-View in the UK on SKY TV.
Some of the song titles
for their upcoming album are:
Simon will be laying down vocals in August.
From JAM TV:
So long as the untimely demise of Princess Diana continies to invite elaborate charity events, Linda McCartney-related public requiems will have some serious ground to make up.
This weekend, it's the memory of the Princess of Wales that gets it chance to get, well, remembered again with a tribute concert to be staged in Althorp Park in Nothampton, England, her childhood home.
Duran Duran, who were one of Diana's personal faves, will headline the sold-out event and close with a six-song set that will likely include "Save A Prayer." The rest of the concert's lineup includes a smorgasbord of 80's stars like Chris DeBurgh and T'Pau along with Sir Cliff Richards and the Soweto String Quartet. Maywatch hunk David Hasselhoff will also attend and is expected to wear a shirt for the occasion.
Profits from the event will benefit the Princess Diana Memorial Fund, which supports various Princess Diana charities.
JohnTaylor/Terroristen
will be hitting the road again at the end of July through the first
two weeks of August. This leg will cover primarily the west side of
the country from San Diego to Seattle. The schedule beyond this is
tentatively planned as follows: In September John will concentrate on
finishing his second full length solo album, and October and November
will see JohnTaylor/Terroristen going to Japan and hitting the East
coast of the US for more shows.
The dates that are confirmed now are:
Warren shaved his head
bald. He is considering adapting multi colored mohawk hair pieces
to stick on and wear. See the Warren News
page for a photo. (Ok, you know we couldn't pass this one up!
Our only comment is "How old is this man!?" At his age even Manic
Panic would be pushing it! - age defying ed. note)
Warren has three CDs ready to
go: the first RoadRage is a live CD (see track listing below). Nick
designed the cover and did the artwork for this. The second is called
Blue, which is world-ambeint music featuring Shankar. The last of the
trilogy is Trance, which is straight ahead ambient. All CDs will be
released on Beyond Records.
There is a new DD bootleg
that fans in Canada have spotted, it called The Barbarella Years and
here's the track listing:
Channel 4 in the UK
(mistakenly- ed. note) reported that Duran Duran are to split after
the release of a "Greatest Hit's" album later this year. It also
mentioned the poor US sales of Medazzaland and that Simon Le Bon is
to go solo.
Warren's mother posted the
following on the Duran Duran message board on AOL:
"Okay, okay...calm down guys and gals.....just got off the phone with Warren and the rumor is ABSOLUTELY not true!!! He laughed and said, oh, great publicity!!
In addition, he played me three DD songs on their next album....what can I say?? They just keep getting better and better. I also heard an instrumental piece for WC's next solo release and I am telling you now.....if this doesn't win a Grammy....there is something wrong!! There are some great things on the horizon for our boys, so keep on Duran-ing and look forward to another Ordinary World!!
Would really appreciate it if
you would all keep Warren's sister in your thoughtsand prayers....she
is having cervical spine surgery on Tuesday, so, if you
would........Save A Prayer."
Duran Duran were the special

band chose not to be on any of the advertising, and wanted their
participation to be low-key. The tickets were already sold out by the
time Duran Duran were added to the bill. The concert took place on
Saturday, June 27th and will aid many of Princess Diana's charities.
Duran Duran's performance closed out the show.
The band now wants to have
the new album out this year!! They have another song completed called
"Lady Xanan".
There was a short clip of
Simon signing "Save A Prayer" at the Diana Tribute Concert on
Entertainment Tonight on June 29, 1998.
Duran Duran played the

More Terroristen!
John is hitting the road again with Terroristen at the end of June and finishing up the latest installment of his West Coast shows in the second week of August. The only dates that are confirmed are:
There are possible shows in Seattle and Las Vegas. Stay tune for the latest news on this or check out www.trusttheprocess.com
Duran Duran is tentatively
scheduled to perform at The Universal Ampitheatre in Los Angeles
sometime in June 1998. In the seasonal advertisement in LA
Weekly, there is a 2 page spread of future performances of artists
for the summer season. For the month of June, Duran Duran are
scheduled with tickets priced @ $45.00 / $30.50 / & $23.00
respectfully. Of course, since there is no definite date, the
loophole exists that you/we shall never actually witness such an
event. Let's all keep those fingers crossed.
In Sunday's 3/29/98 Daily
News (NYC), there's an article on the upcoming summer tours
coming to New New York. According to the article Duran will grace us
with their prescence (no date mentioned). Fingers crossed again.
The release date for the
Japanese 2CD set of "Strange Behaviour" has been pushed back to April
29.
The Essentials/Night
Versions won't be released until April 7. And if you're
interested, here's what the EMI web site says about the Essentials at
http://hollywoodandvine.com/essentials/preview.html
Small bit on Duran and the
Essentials/Night Versions CD in the March 28 issue of
Billboard, the one with the pic of Simon on page 33. On
page 49 in the Merchants & Marketing section is an ad by
EMI-Capitol for the Essantials albums, which basically goes through
the releases (Duran, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pet Shop Boys, a
compilation Essentials), and talks about a contest related to it
(where you can win all four).
Here's the Duran info., taken straight from the description under the picture of the album:
"Rare and unreleased mixes of their greatest hits, plus Nick Rhodes' personal liner notes and photos - on an enhanced CD with a bonus mix of "New Moon On Monday" that links to Duran Duran's website."
As for the cover art, it's a picture of the group from I'd say summer '81 (their look from the GOF video), John and Simon in those horizontal striped shirts, Andy with short blond hair.
Duran have recorded 9 songs
complete with vocals, and they want to have 14 done by the end of
April. Two titles - "Satan In Drag" and "Russian Brunette".
Duran were "released" from
Capitol about two weeks ago. They now own the Medazzaland master
tape and can do with it whatever they like. They also own the right
of the Montreal 1997 show, Chicago and Milwaukee 1995 and the Wembley
1994 tape (the film). Capitol also paid them for two "unrecorded"
albums. They are no longer with Virgin in the UK (since that was only
a license) and will put stuff out on Lo-Fi from now on.
If you are into Wes Wehmiller, it's your lucky day. Go
check out

This is the home page for Wes Wehmiller's Other Band -- I, Claudius.
They're playing on Friday, April 12 at the Roxy on Sunset, 9:15 PM.
For more information, mail them at
iclaudius@writeme.com.
A very glossy trendy Aussie
magazine has reviewed Medazzaland (as an import!) and it hasn't even
been released there! Now that's saying something! Fairly good review
too by the editor-in-chief himself of this very new magazine, called
'Cream' issue: no.2 [Autumn '98]! If you are very interested in
getting this, you can e-mail
Andrew
Sulzberger, who so kindly provided this info., and maybe he
can hook you up.
John Taylor will be doing
a small tour, 12-14 shows, performing only Duran and Power
Station tunes. The tour is called "John Taylor Terroristen" (German
for "terrorists"), and he will be billed as "John Taylor of Duran
Duran." Confirmed dates are: Friday, May 22, at the San Juan
Capistrano Coach House (714-496-8930) Charge by phone with Visa/MC,
10am-8pm. Saturday, May 23 at the Santa Barbara Coach House
(805-962-8877).
The "Essentials/Night
Versions" CD will only be released in North America. This is a record
company decision and not the bands. This is coming out on ERPOP
records, Capitol's parent company, and will be released March 31.
Nick and Warren are
currently in the studio working on a new Duran Duran album. Simon is
expected to join them very shortly.
The "Strange Behaviour" CD
is NOT associated with the band or the record company in any way so
order it at your own risk.
No agreement has been made as
to when "Medazzaland" will be out in Europe nor the new Duran Duran
album that they are working on now.
And the "Electric
Barbarella" video is on the charts on MTV Brazil.
Duran is now regrouping its
energies. Simon, on a recent hotline message, said that "we can all
agree that Medazzaland has been a complete disaster in America", and
because of that the band has decided to "hold on to the record" and
are "relaunching" it. He didn't really elaborate on that. The band
has also been working on some new music.
Here is a description that
Tower Records online had for the Essentials CD:
ESSENTIAL DURAN DURAN: NIGHT VERSIONS is an Enhanced CD containing both a full audio program as well as multimedia computer files. The bonus track "New Monday On Monday" contains a link to the Duran Duran web site. Full tittle: Essential Duran Duran: Night Versions. This is part of EMI Records' Essential Limited Edition series. Includes liner notes by Nick Rhodes.

BizWeek Article Bashes Music Industry For Not Embracing MP3.
Summary: An article in most recent issue of BusinessWeek details the current state of digital music distribution and specifically the impact of MP3. First, it outlined Capitol Records attempt to sell the a Duran Duran single on the net for $.99 cents last year. The article claimed it was a "nightmare" as retailers revolted and the piracy concerns dominated the conversation. To read the entire article: http://www.businessweek.com/premium/09/b3567132.htm

The following excerpts are
from ICE CD newsletter:
The Essentials disc is slated for release on March
31 APRIL 7, alongside
Essentials discs for Red Hot Chili Peppers and Pet Shop Boys.
"We already have big-selling greatest-hits packages out there for all of these artists," ERPOP A&R executive Todd Rosenberg tells ICE. "I didn't want to compete with those titles. Instead I wanted to do somethign that was great for the fans and which could bring new listeners to these bands. For the Chili Peppers I chose to [compile] their cover songs, and for Pet Shop Boys and Duran Duran I used a number of their classic tracks, but mostly the alternate mixes and out-of-print versions."
The track list for Duran Duran's "Night Versions"
- Planet Earth
- Girls on Film
- My Own Way,
- Hungry Like the Wolf (all four are "Night Versions")
- Rio (Dance Mix)
- New Religion (Night Version)
- Hold Back the Rain (Remix)
- Is There Something I Should Know? (Monster Mix)
- Union of the Snake (Monkey Mix)
- The Reflex (Dance Mix)
- Wild Boys (Wilder Than the Wild Boys Mix)
"A lot of Duran Duran's early-'80s 12-inch singles were never released in America, " Rosenberg explains. "The reason they are so special is because there was no real sampling technology at the time, so the band would completely reorchestrate the song, playing it as an extended version for six or seven minutes.
"For instance," he continues, "'Girls on Film' has an extra verse that was lost on the version we all know. And at other times [frontman] Simon Le Bon sings alternate vocals. This is the stuff people have been asking for 15 years; it's a real fan's package." The disc also includes "a true disco arrangement with strings" of "My Own Way" and "New Religion," which features Le Bon, "doing a faux rap, [demonstrating] how tapped in Duran Duran were to dance music and early hip-hop."
Malcolm Garret will be
designing the cover of THE ESSENTIALS, expected to be out on
March 31st on E-Prop.
Supposedly these are the
European tour dates but since all is a mystery, we'll keep you posted
on news. A quick note: THESE ARE NOT
OFFICIAL DATES!
Apparently, Duran are being
dissed in, of all places, Hustler Magazine! In the April issue
is a review of a porno film which a critic says it was shot on film
like the early cheesy videos of Duran Duran. My, my.
This is from Lumiere
Magazine
(http://www.lumiere.com):
"And finally, despite a series of comebacks trying to rejuvenate the eighties' enhanced image of Duran Duran, all three boys from the band have stumbled across a business venture of a different sort: nail polish. Hard Candy have begun promoting a color appropriately christened 'Electric Barbarella' - after the band's comeback track - in the latest Candy Man line. The Hot Pink shade is predicted to become a musical fashion trend guaranteeing immediate following. Give the boys a smile for trying, and who knows - maybe it won't be long before we see the singer's wife, Yasmin Le Bon, prancing around with the lacquer."

The DD Essentials CD,
expected out this Spring on E-Prop,
will be not B-sides as previuosly reported, but remixes. Here's the
track listing from duranduran.com:
The following article was on
MTV Online ...
Duran Duran, Capitol Still Working On Deal Despite Reports
Despite reports to the contrary, Duran Duran and Capitol Records tell MTV News they have not severed their 16-year partnership. According to both parties, the two camps are still working on hammering out a new deal, and it looks like nothing will be resolved for several weeks.
"Billboard Online" sited unnamed sources in reporting that the two had dissolved a partnership that extended back to Duran Duran's major label debut, 1982's "Rio." Since that first effort for Capitol, the band (and its off-shoots Arcadia and the Power Station) has released a dozen albums on the label, with its last Capitol effort coming last year in the form of "Medazzaland." During its time under the Capitol umbrella, Duran Duran has released the following albums:
- 1982 - "Rio"
- 1983 - "Duran Duran" (reissue of band's debut on Harvest Records)

Strange Behaviour for Duran Duran
By JOHN SAKAMOTO -- Executive Producer, Jam! Showbiz
Amid reports that they have parted ways with its longtime record company, Duran Duran will release a new double album this spring. Titled "Strange Behaviour", the two-CD set will be comprised of various B-sides and 12'' remixes released by the band during its 17-year career with EMI.
The collection will be released in the U.K. on either March 23 or 30. It is tentatively scheduled to come out in North America in early April, according to a spokesperson for EMI Music Canada. On Monday, Billboard online quoted unidentified sources as saying that Duran Duran and EMI had parted ways. EMI Canada could not confirm that report Monday.
**Music Boulevard is now taking orders for the Japanese import CD "Strange Behaviour". The CD is scheduled to be released on February 17, 1998 and the price is $36.77 (American dollars)**
ESSENTIALLY DURAN
In other release news, EMI's Essential back-catalogue series is set to feature Duran Duran. The track listing has been finalized and a release date of Spring 1998 has been set for the US. According to the band's official web site, the disc's liner notes will be written by keyboardist Nick Rhodes and will feature 12 tracks comprising the first four years of 12" remixes.
There are a couple new Duran

There was a tiny b&w pic
of Simon in the July 17, 1998 BAM issue.
In the October issue of Q
magazine, there is a 2 page article with Simon. They look back at
the Drum accident.
There was a recent article in
BAM about Andy Prieboy (Wall of Voodoo) writing a musical that
spoofs the rock biz- one of the songs is about how record companies
are looking for the next big thing and it's called "We Need Another
Duran Duran"!
Duran is mentioned in the
June issue of Electronic Musician in the Working Musician
section. The article deals with music marketing on the web and talks
about the EB web only mix.
The June 20 issue of
Hello features lots of pictures of Simon and Yasmin from the
Louis Vuitton Classic in London. It also features photos of Amanda,
Atlanta, Amanda's father and brother.
Just in case you're
interested in what Yasmin LeBon is up to... She is in the new issue
of New Woman Magazine. Not only does she have a spread inside,
she is gracing the cover for the first time (in the US) in a long
while
In the May issue of
INTERFACE magazine, there is a great interview with Duran
Duran .
Yasmin and the girls are in
the June issue of People magazine.
There's a picture of Simon in
Neon magazine (a UK film monthly) in a feature about the
Cannes film festival.
A very glossy trendy Aussie
magazine has reviewed Medazzaland (as an import!) and it hasn't even
been released there! Now that's saying something! Fairly good review
too by the editor-in-chief himself of this very new magazine, called
'Cream' issue: no.2 [Autumn '98]! If you are very interested in
getting this, you can e-mail
Andrew
Sulzberger, who so kindly provided this info., and maybe he
can hook you up.
In the March 1998 issue of
British Esquire, there was a little article entitled "40
Lyrics You Ought To Know" which stated several lines each from 40
different songs. One of the songs that people "ought to know" was
Ordinary World!
Hello! #501
(March 21, with Bruce Forsythe on the cover) has lots of Yasmin/kids
photos!
There is a photo of Nick and
Madeline in Hello! #499, March 7, 1998.
Nick is in the new issue
(March) of Elle Magazine (US). There is a recent
picture too!
Nick is in the March issue of
US Elle.
John is in the March issue of
UK Elle.
There is a small picture of
Nick in the March issue of Keyboard (hard to miss: bright
yellow cover) looking at a copy of the January issue of Keyboard,
which he of course was in.
Duran are in the January
issue of MIX magazine, with Jane's Addiction on the cover. The
article is a few pages long and talks about the making of
Medazzaland.
The March VOX Magazine
has a great 7-page Duran article. It has a small picture of simon on
the top right hand corner with the quote "when the band took off I
shit myself senseless". Check it out! If you call 011-44-4444 44 5555
(a UK number) or write to Vox, IPC Magazines, Oakfield House, 33
Perrymount Road, Haywards Heath, West Sussex, RH16 3FS, UK, you can
get a copy. The mag costs £2.60 so together with despatch I'd
send an international money order for £6 (at a guess) made out
to IPC Magazines Ltd. Check local papers for exchange rates.
Well, another issue of In
Style is on the shelves. Amanda's got a photo in another one of
those fashion spreads (this time for heart necklaces), Yasmin's in
the celebrity wedding section with the Gail Elliot wedding that was
in Elle UK.
The UK magazine "Minx"
(February issue) has a feature on SuperModel weddings. In the
article, there's a piece on the wedding of Gail Elliot and Yasmin was
one of her bridesmaids. As well, there's a section on Supermodel
weddings that lasted......Simon and Yasmin are the first pairing
featured. This section has lots of pix (and you'll see both Simon and
Yasmin), and is quite hilarious!!
In the February
Interview (Jon Bon Jovi on the cover), there's a smallish
photo of Duran from the Whitney on the inside back cover.
