John played at benefit
concert.
On Sunday, September 20 at the Mayan Theater in Los Angeles, the "Do Re Music" concert and silent auction to benefit the Foundation For Advancement Of Music Education will take place.
The artists slated to perform are John Taylor, Corey Glover, Phantom Planet and Chickenhawk. They are scheduled to perform 25 - 30 minute sets each. Auction items include a Lilith Fair poster signed by Sarah McLachlan, a signed Dishwalla poster and items from the Goo Goo Dolls, Weezer, Jackson Brown, Concrete Blonde and others.
The Foundation For Advancement Of Music Education is a non-profit organization dedicated to encouraging and enriching music education by providing music industry talent and services to aid educators in the classroom.
JohnTaylor/Terroristen hit the road again at the
end of July through the first two weeks of August. This leg covered
primarily the west side of the country from San Diego to Seattle. The
schedule beyond this is tentatively planned as follows: In September
John will concentrate on finishing his second full length solo album,
and October and November will see JohnTaylor/Terroristen going to
Japan and hitting the East coast of the US for more shows.
Allison Anders, the
well-known independent filmmaker, will be guest curator for Sundance
Channel's July lineup of rock-and-roll documentaries, coined "Docs
That Rock." In addition to helping make programming selections for
the month, Anders will appear on the channel throughout July to
discuss the films that will be shown and to conduct interviews with
the artists that contributed to them.
"In addition to getting the opportunity to talk to the filmmakers about their movies," she continued, "I'm also getting the chance to talk to Sonic Youth, John Doe of X and Duran Duran's John Taylor, who is a wealth of information on David Bowie and on how Bowie influenced New Romantics and, surprisingly Punk Rock music, as well as stuff today."
"Docs That Rock" will premiere on July 4, beginning at 4 p.m. and Border Radio will debut on July 2 at 9 p.m. In addition, "Docs That Rock" will air July 6-10, beginning at 12 p.m.; July 12 beginning at 2:30 p.m.; July 20-24, beginning at 9 p.m.; and July 27-31, beginning at 1 a.m. (All times are ET/PT).
Sundance Channel is the 24-hour, commercial-free premium movie service bringing the film festival experience to television viewer nationwide. It represents a carefully-selected range of the best in new independent film including features, documentaries, shorts, animation and international cinema, under the creative guidance of Robert Redford.
John played at Musician's
Institute in Los Angeles on May 26th. After the concert, there was a
Q&A session (all for free)! He played almost all the songs from
his regular set-list: "Rio", "Some Like It Hot", "Sin of the City",
"Just Another High" (Bryan Ferry), "A Better Way", "Hey Day", "Losing
You", "Anon", "Feelings Are Good", "Bang A Gong", "My Own Way",
"Planet Earth w/Good Times" (Chic).
Some of the ?'s from the Q&A were... How did you get to play in a James Bond film? How did you start playing bass? Do you like playing without a pick? What are your favorite DD records? How has your songwriting changed from being in DD to going solo? What happened to PS & DD? Do you speak a lot to the other DD members? How did the Nile Rogers thing come about? Do you work with a vocal coach? How was it like to play big crowds as opposed to now? Live Aid - how was that? Roger & Andy? First bass guitar?

John on Sci-Fi
Channel
John's appearance on the Sci-Fi Channel show "The Web" has been
making several appearances in late November/early December. Look for
potential repeats, and keep in mind he appears at the very end of the
show. He talks about how he recorded Auto-Didact by plugging all the
instruments directly into a computer and editing that way, and how it
was the first time he'd ever recorded like that.
